My father was in the NAVY, and I have lived on Guam,in Norfolk VA, Des Plains IL, Wheeling IL, Pax River MD, Virginia Beach VA, and various places in MI after my father retired. I have been lucky to have grown up in a military family. I have seen why we can all enjoy the freedom that our armed forces provide. The aircraft carriers (something you can't understand unless you get to stand on the flight deck while an F-14 screams down the catapult with afterburners lit), the best aircraft in the world. And while I have grown to fear my government, I am a patriot and love my country. I have lived in MI since 1982.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's. A much better time to live in than today. The world has become a place where everyone wants cheap and fast. Quality is a by-gone thing. Today you can't buy something and expect it to work a year later.
People took pride in what they made, companies wanted to make a good product. Now, we have no time for friends and family. We are too busy making the all mighty dollar. We have a television for just about every room in our house, but when I was growing up we only had one in the living room and we spent time together. I know change is the only constant, but maybe something can be learned from the past. It has taken me years to get to where I am today, to be happy and have the things I have wanted. It was not given to me, I earned it and because of that I value what I have. Any way, enough of my ramblings...
