Scott's Fish Room

Filters & Heaters

Pictures of the filters and heaters I use

I have been using Tetra pre set heaters for the smaller tanks but a number of them have failed so I started replacing them with Eheim Ebo Jager heaters. I still have two Aqueon Pro's in tanks 1 & 3. I have a Gas heater on the wall in the family room to keep the basement warm, this way the tank heaters don't run as much. Gas is cheaper than electricity. When I started the fish room, I used Whisper power filters. I changed them out for air driven box fiters but whent back to the Whisper filters until Feb of 2024 when I switched to Sponge filters. The cost of the Whisper filters and the maintance that they needed was the reason. Now, I just use one air pump to supply air to all of my tanks via the 1.5 inch PVC pipes that circle the fish room. I regulate the air pressure with a bleed valve, keeping the pressure under 1 PSI and usually right around .5 PSI. This is all I really need to run all the sponge filters and helps the parts in the pump last longer. The air pump is connected to a UPS.
